Portinatx Holidays
Portinatx Holidays - Serene, self contained, rugged beauty
Ibiza has its clubbing paradise and family destinations, but where do you go if you want a taste of isolation peppered with all the comforts of a larger resort? The answer could be Portinatx.
Situated on the rugged north coast, Portinatx is a beach enclave nestled in cliffs and pine trees. The resort boasts 3 beautiful golden sand beaches, an understated nightlife and incredible scenery.
If you have experienced Ibiza’s party scene, perhaps this is the place to spend your down time, chilling on the tranquil coast but close enough to the action of San Antonio. If you have a young family, the beaches are very child friendly and are all supervised by lifeguards. If you are feeling adventurous, the 10km walk to Punta de Xarraca is an exhilarating cliff top walk.
When to go
The season in Ibiza generally starts in late May to early June and reaches full steam in July and August with many families and clubbers alike seeking the island’s famous sunshine. The north coast tends to be quieter and a lot more isolated, generally the best time to visit is in July and August when the sea temperature is at its warmest.
The weather in Portinatx
With its sheltered position, temperatures in Portinatx regularly reach 28 degrees in July and August, with sea temperatures peaking at around 25 degrees during that period. It very rarely rains during the holiday season and you will experience up to 10 hours of cloud-free blue sky during July and August.
Getting the best deal
Portinatx hotels are generally all inclusive large hotels with every available facility you could wish on a holiday. However, some of the activities may have an extra charge. Make sure you check the small print if there is an activity you are planning on enjoying a lot of. Hotels may offer much more competitive prices in May and October, however, if you book in October, be prepared to experience a little rain and some overcast days. Have a look at our late deals page for some up to the minute bargains.
Airport and transport need to know
Portinatx is about 35 minute car journey away from Ibiza’s airport (IBZ). Taxi fares can cost up to £40 (50 Euros). The airport can get pretty busy during the summer season, but it is very open and clean, boasting some great shops to help you beat those going home blues.
Car hire companies are abundant at the airport and many of the hotels in Portinatx will also hire out vehicles on a daily or 3 day rate. The bus services from Portinatx go to Santa Eularia (where you can get to the Hippy Market) and Ibiza town. Check the Ibiza bus website for up to date departure times.
Taxis leave from the centre of Portinatx, generally you will expect to pay up to 45 Euros to get to San Antonio, but prices may be significantly higher on the return journey if you come back after midnight.

The best beaches in the Portinatx area
The beaches in Ibiza are many and varied; the great thing about the island is that it is small enough to take in a number of them during your stay. Portinatx boasts three excellent beaches, each with its own character and they are close enough to each other to stop you getting bored of staying on one beach all day.
Best beach for lazing on a sun lounger
The largest of the beaches is S’Arenal Gros, a beautiful golden sand beach with a gentle slope to the water and sun loungers aplenty. This is a good place to start off your day and enjoy the morning sunshine. S’Arenal Gros is very child friendly and is manned by a lifeguard as are all the beaches in Portinatx.
Best beach for activities
All of the beaches at Portinatx will offer the usual water sports activities such as snorkelling, windsurfing and pedalos. There is even a dive school in the resort, offering a great opportunity to see the verdant marine life that inhabits the north coast of Ibiza. Walking the cliff-top paths, discovering the beautiful pine-clad countryside, is another way to get active in this fantastic resort. If the heat gets too much, there is always the water-park to cool off in and have some fun!
Best beach for complete isolation
Cala Xarraca is a five-minute drive from Portinatx, a lovely little beach in a beautiful bay. There is a restaurant here and a few sun loungers but the beach is generally very quiet. Cala Xarraca is known locally for its hot mud spring, with apparent healing properties. Go on… have a dip in a mud bath!
