Cala Llonga Holidays - Golden sand and family fun

If you are looking for a place to relax, put your feet up and enjoy the view while the kids are in a safe in a supervised environment, then Cala Llonga is the family holiday destination for you.  This small, quiet resort is close to the tranquillity of the north of the island, but not too far away from the nightlife of Ibiza Town and the frenetic hedonism of San Antonio.

Cala Llonga was originally a smuggler’s cove and boasts a large beach in a sheltered inlet, perfect for safe swimming and snorkelling. Sun-loungers are plenty on these pristine golden sands and toddlers are catered for with a purpose built playground.  No dogs are allowed on this beach making it even safer for children to play.  Just 5 minutes up the road is one of Ibiza’s premier golf clubs, with a total of 27 competition standard holes to play.  There is  amassive price reductions for children under 15 and good discounts for young adults between 15 and 21.

When to go

As this is a small family oriented resort, bookings during the school holidays should be made early to avoid disappointment. The best months to visit are July, August and September so you can make the most out of the family activities that are arranged at this time of year. If you are looking for a cheaper deal, visit in late September or early October when hotels offer considerable discount to extend their season.

Airport and transport need to know

Cala Llonga is a 45 minute taxi ride away from Ibiza’s airport, which can be reached from all the UK’s major airports. The airport can get pretty busy during the summer season, but it is open plan and clean, boasting some great shops to help you beat those going home blues.

At the resort you’ll find two bus services, IbizaBus 41 will take you into Santa Eularia, a busy resort town. IbizaBus15 will take you into Ibiza town, a must see with its medieval old quarter and some famous restaurants. Buses usually leave every hour except for a reduced lunchtime service.

There is also a water taxi service, which will take you to a number of destinations for a nominal price and is a great way to see the island from a different perspective.

The best beaches in the Cala Llonga area

The beaches in Ibiza are many and varied; the great thing about the island is that it is small enough to take in a number of them during your stay. Beaches range from white sand fringed coves to golden stretches of open coast and all in between.

Best beach for lazing on a sun lounger

Cala Llonga beach has plenty of sun loungers; it’s peaceful with some good restaurants set back from the beach. You don’t need to go far for this one. If you get bored of sunbathing, there are still plenty of activities such as hiring a pedalo or windsurfing, the adventurous can even try parasailing!

Best beach for activities

Playa d’en Bossa is only 8 miles away, one of the largest beaches on the island with water-sports facilities, restaurants and some great hikes south to Coves Blanques. Playa d’en Bossa is also home to some of Ibiza’s premier nightclubs, such as Space and Bora Bora is widely considered to be tone of the most famous beach bars in the world.

Best beach for complete isolation

There is a tiny beach 20 minutes walk to the north around the headland that can be accessed by a little scenic path presenting great views of the inlet. It is still close enough to be an easy walk from the resort but far enough away to feel like being in the real Balearic countryside. From the hill you may even catch glimpses of the spectacular coastline all the way up to Santa Eularia.
