Family holidays in Son Bou
Son Bou, situated on the west coast of Menorca, is a large purpose built resort developed around one of the best beaches on the island, and a very popular destination for families. The resort is a 30 minute transfer from Mahon airport, and set against the attractive rolling hills of the countryside. Son Bou also includes the developments of San Jaime, set behind the main resort, and Torre soli Nou, which sits on a hilltop overlooking the beach.

The beach at Son Bou stretches for 3km along the coastline, and offers a wonderful expanse of fine golden sand, backed by sand dunes and marshes. The area is clean and safe, with the sand gently shelving into the sea, providing safe paddling and swimming conditions for children. Watersports are available at the beach in Son Bou, including jet skis, windsurfing, snorkelling and pedalos, and there are convenient beach bars for refreshments. For those looking for that all-over tan, the far end of the beach, towards Santo Tomas, is widely recognised as a nudist beach. Son Bou is home to some large beachfront hotels offering sports facilities, pools and kids clubs, and a wide range of self-catering apartments and private villas. San Jaime, behind Son Bou, is a large self-contained complex, offering its’ own accommodation, shops and restaurants.
Holidays in Son Bou – Catering to families
Son Bou is a great base for families, with its’ excellent sandy beach and well equipped town centres. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, offering a wide choice of food to suit everyone, and supermarkets for those self-catering in San Bou. Nightlife and entertainment is fairly relaxed and laid-back, and generally centred around the hotels of San Bou. Children are well catered for in San Bou and will especially enjoy Club San Jaime, with its’ water chutes, paddling pools and giant maze. The nearly town of Alaior, with its’ weekly market and traditional shops selling pottery, jewellery, leather and shoes, is a worthwhile daytrip.
