Holidays in Sliema
Sliema, situated on the peninsula directly north of the capital, Valletta, is a popular tourist destination, and one of Maltas’ main coastal resorts. Meaning ‘peace’, Sliema was once a small fishing town, and has since developed into a thriving resort, home to upmarket hotels and prestigious residential areas. The elegant promenade, lined with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, is the main hub of the resort, popular both with the Maltese and the many holidaymakers who visit Sliema.

Holidays in Sliema – Take a leisurely stroll along the promenade
The coastline around Sliema is made up of rocky beaches, with flat platforms for sunbathing and plenty of smooth rocks shelving out to sea, especially on the north side of the peninsula. The sea is perfect for both swimming and snorkelling, and waterskiing, scuba-diving, sailing, fishing, and boat trips are all available. Although there are no sandy beaches in Sliema, a number of lidos can be found on the front, offering facilities such as sunbeds, umbrellas, showers and refreshments, proving popular with the local residents as well as the many tourists who use them. The promenade in Sliema stretches for 5km along Tower Road, and heads north towards the resort of St. Julians, offering wonderful views out across Valletta. Packed with waterfront cafes, bars and restaurants, the promenade is the ideal place for the traditional Mediterranean ‘passegiata’, the evening stroll with the family. Sliema is home to the largest selection of hotels and apartments on Malta, offering many new and upscale establishments.
