Nab a fantastic late Easter holiday bargain
Many people assume travelling abroad over the Easter school holidays period will automatically be much more expensive than booking out of season. While many travel agents do hike up their prices over the school holidays, you can still get some great deals in the first two weeks of April by booking at the last minute.
Late Easter deals can be found to some of the most popular destinations in Europe - with the southern Mediterranean and North Africa a particularly good bet. Travel to Turkey, Spain, Portugal or Egypt in April and you can expect long sunny days and temperatures ranging from the high teens to high twenties. Take a look at our Late Deals Calendar to see some of the great last-minute bargains you could get hold of.
Shaking off the winter blues
While northern climes are shaking off the cold and rain of winter, much of southern Europe is basking in warm weather under bright blue skies. Easter has become the traditional time when north Europeans take their first holiday of the year, to set them up for the coming months and put the chills of winter behind them.
Easter sees the start of the holiday season for much of the Mediterranean region and while Spain, Portugal and the Canaries are popular all year round, it is the Easter holidays (and more precisely the school holidays) that see even the smaller holiday destinations come to life. One of the joys of a holiday at this time is that many Southern European countries especially celebrate Easter with enormous colourful parades and street parties, adding to the enjoyment of a holiday in the sun.
Book well in advance
Because family holidays are popular over this time prices can often remain high, with the most popular resorts selling out well in advance. The dates for Easter vary from year to year between late March and early April, and while other half term holidays can be more variable, with schools taking holidays at different times and therefore spreading demand over two or three weeks, schools tend to take their Easter holidays at much the same time as each other and the demand for late deals and last minute bargains is high. It is possible to find these offers, but the choice of destination or flight times may be restricted or simply unavailable. If you can only travel on certain dates during Easter then early booking is advisable.
Easter holidays are increasingly popular for families, and for many it is just one of the holidays they take each year. A short break at Easter is the ideal time for a holiday, with lower, more comfortable temperatures than you will experience at the height of summer, and smaller numbers of fellow tourists in the resorts.
