Sao Miguel Holidays
Astonishingly fertile Azores island
Sao Miguel holidays are based on the largest and most easily accessible of the Azores islands. Holidays on Sao Miguel offer a typical Azores mix of stunning green landscapes and outdoor activities. All walkers and nature lovers will enjoy Sao Miguel’s beautifully fertile countryside with its tea and tobacco plantations, corn fields, orange groves, intensely green pastures, fine forests, and a chain of volcanic peaks rising to the Serra da Agua de Pau at around 3000 feet. Many Sao Miguel holidays are based around the island capital of Ponta Delgada, which has a fine collection of historic buildings, churches and chapels. Being the most populated island, Sao Miguel holidays give a better insight into everyday life in the Azores.
Splendidly scenic golf
The island’s size and importance means Sao Miguel holidays offer the widest variety of natural attractions, activities and facilities. Sao Miguel is the principal destination for golf holidays in the Azores. Sao Miguel golf features the stunning Batalha golf course near Ponta Delgada and the equally scenic Furnas golf course. Sao Miguel holidays have a deserved reputation for exciting big game and lake fishing. Holidays on Sao Miguel could also include enjoyable horse riding, tennis and diving.
Variety of great excursions
An undoubted Sao Miguel holiday highlight is the gorgeous chain of emerald green lakes in the craters of Sete Cidades, Furnas and Fogo. Other worthwhile Sao Miguel holiday excursions include the hot sulphur springs at Vale das Furnas and Ribeira Grande on the north coast. All Sao Miguel holidays should include a jeep safari to the lesser-known western side of the island. Regular summer ferries to islands like Santa Maria and Terceira mean Sao Miguel holidays often form part of a wider tour of the Azores. Most visitors to the Azores will start and finish their holidays in Sao Miguel as the island has the archipelago’s principal airport.
Sao Miguel weather

Rainfall in Sao Miguel is moderate throughout the year although the central, west and north of the island will see higher rainfall levels.
