Pico Things to Do

Guided Walks
The diversity of Pico’s landscape is one of the reasons this island is a favourite with walkers and hikers. The dramatic Pico Mountain is one of the natural attractions and access to the summit can be less taxing depending on the route taken. The views of the Atlantic Ocean and Faial Island from the summit are both magical and breath-taking.

Sports
Sports in Pico can include swimming and snorkelling in the natural pools and lagoons or bays and coves dotted around the coastline. Horse riding, mountain biking and jeep safaris are an excellent way to view the island’s beautiful lakes and mountains. Water sports in Pico can include windsurfing, sailing and big game fishing, making the island an ideal destination for an activity holiday

Island Tours
Full and half day Pico Island tours can be taken and can include the Lajes do Pico on the south coast, which was once the whaling centre and dates back to 1460. Pico tours can include the whaling museum and the Verdelho wine cellars. Tours of the nearby Faial Island by boat can include Capelinhos; the location of the last volcanic eruption in 1957, and Caldeira; the highest point on the island.

Excursions
Island hopping is one of the pleasures of a Pico holiday. Faial, Sao Miguel and Terceira can all be reached by boat and all boast their own beautiful beaches and picturesque towns and villages. Why not make your Pico holiday a whale-watching holiday? Whale and dolphin watching trips should be included on any Pico holiday itinerary. Do not miss the chance to take a guided tour through Pico’s amazing lava caves, some of which stretch for 5km.

Diving
The Azores is a world famous diving location, and Pico provides over 20 shore diving points around its coastline. Many of the diving spots are accessible all year round. Boat diving is also available from drop off points around Pico’s coast.
