Things To Do in Prazeres
Prazeres Chapel
Typical of its surroundings, Prazeres church is full of Madeira charm and is dedicated to the ‘Lady of Prazeres’. Blessed with amazing beauty - much like the island itself - the entire parish sits upon an enormous terrace from where you can enjoy breathtaking views over the ocean and surrounding areas. This village is without doubt one of the most picturesque of the island.
Quinta Pedagogica
This is an interesting visit – a garden in the village of Prazeres. It’s extremely well maintained with a mini zoo hosting animals such as llamas, Vietnamese pigs and more. It also has a herb garden, flowers, fruits, a tea house and a playground for children.
Enjoy the Outdoors
A tranquil resort, Prazeres is an ideal base for holidaymakers who are interested in outdoor pursuits. In fact, when Winston Churchill was looking for somewhere “warm, paintable, bathable, comfortable and flowery", it was Madeira that presented him with the ideal location. Within Madeira, Prazeres is perhaps the most picturesque resort, offering stunning coastal and mountain views.
Mountain Biking
The volcanic island of Madeira has an enthralling landscape with high mountains and deep valleys filled with flourishing vegetation. Often the best way to experience the best of Prazeres is by mountain bike. You are able to hire bikes locally and witness the beautiful views for yourself.
Walking and Hiking
Madeira is a hiker’s paradise and Prazeres is a delight to explore by foot with a network of stunning routes that explore the lush green valleys and spectacular viewpoints. From Prazeres there are a number of marked routes along the cliffs and up into the attractive National Park mountains. This is an ideal spot for going on countryside walks and soaking up the scenery. It’s particularly beautiful in spring time due to the abundance of wild flowers, making for a colourful stroll.
Funchal
A day trip to Funchal will allow you to stroll through the old town with its pretty cobbled streets and bustling harbour. As the capital of Madeira, Funchal is a major port town and as such has a wide selection of restaurants, cafés and boutiques to explore. A summer visit to Funchal will allow you to sample Madeira wine, visit popular museums and attend regular festivals and events throughout the season.
