Montechoro Holidays
Montechoro Holidays – Frenetic nightlife, wonderful water sports and glorious beaches
Montechoro is set on the outskirts of Albufeira, one of the most popular resorts on the Algarve. Perfectly situated for the resort’s fantastic nightlife and glorious sandy beaches, it has excellent facilities, whether it is for a busy time on the famous ‘Strip’ or making the most of the wide selection of water sports.
As wonderful as the beaches are, there is plenty more to do to make sure you have a fabulous holiday; take a horse ride along the beach or through the luscious countryside, go dolphin spotting, deep sea fishing or take a dinghy to explore the sea caves; try your hand at water-skiing, paragliding or kite surfing. For a total change, Albufeira has a bowling alley and tennis courts, and don’t forget that the Algarve is one of Europe’s most popular destinations for golf, and you are never far away from an international level course.
Your holiday needn’t be totally hectic, though, and Montechoro has some excellent restaurants, particularly those specialising in fish dishes, the main ingredient supplied fresh every day from local fishing fleets.
When to go
This is a very simple question to answer – anytime is the time to go Montechoro, and totally depends on what you are looking for in a holiday. The weather is glorious for eight months of the year, and even a winter holiday will reward you with bright sun most of the time. If you have young children and want a family holiday, or you can choose your holiday dates if you don’t like crowded places, try the fringe months either side of July, August, and Easter, as this is when the holiday population will be at its densest, and while you will still find space on the beaches to lay your towel, restaurants and bars can get quite packed.
Weather in Montechoro
Temperatures during July and August are up in the high 20s during the twelve hours of daily sunshine, dropping to a comfortable 18º overnight. Atlantic breezes help cool the air, but the sun can still be intense, so make sure you hire a sun shade on the beach and take extra care with children’s tender skin. You may have a couple of days of light rain a month during the high season, but that can come as a pleasant respite and clear the sultry summer air. Most of the rain falls between November to February but is rarely heavy.
If you like warmth but not too much heat, the months either side of high summer are perhaps the loveliest, with temperatures still at shorts and T-shirt level but bringing a cool to the evening that needs a light sweater.
Getting the best deal
If you can’t get a great deal in Montechoro itself, you almost certainly will in one of its neighbouring resorts. A ‘popular’ resort usually means one that has a large amount of summer visitors, and Albufeira and its satellite resorts are a popular as you can possibly get on the Algarve. This means that it’s unlikely you will get a deal at the height of summer, when hotel, apartment and villa occupation is at its highest, but the further you get either side of July and August, except perhaps for Easter, the better deal you will get, because all those beds have to be filled.
You should also find a better deal on flights, and if you live close to two airports in the UK, for example Liverpool and Manchester, check flights from both to see which gives you the best deal. Have a look below at our current excellent deals, and keep an eye on our late offers.
Airport and travel need to know
Ten airlines operate from twenty-three airports in the UK and Ireland to Faro airport. From Liverpool (LPL) you can get there with Ryanair or EasyJet, and from Manchester Airport (MAN) to Faro with Monarch, flythomascook, Jet2.com and Thomson Flights who, along with Flybe will also get you there from Exeter Airport (EXT). Aerlingus and Ryanair fly from Cork (ORK), Thomson Flights, flythomascook.com charter and EasyJet from Edinburgh (EDI).
The Algarve is one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations so there is a lot of competition between on-line private hire companies and metered cabs. A pre-booked car for four people will cost around 44€ (£36), 68€ (£55) for a six-seater. A combination train (www.cp.pt), bus (www.eva-bus.com) and taxi will get you to your hotel from Faro, but will take twice as long and probably cost more than a pre-booked transfer would, particularly if you are travelling as a family or group.
Best beaches in Montechoro
You are spoilt for choice as far as beaches go on a holiday to Montechoro, five of which have the coveted Blue Flag advertising their high quality and cleanliness. Ten minutes’ walk will bring you to the golden sands of Praia d’Oura, set in a large bay protected from the elements by sandstone cliffs. There is a large selection of water sports of offer, which include windsurfing, water-skiing, paragliding, kite surfing, jet-skiing, and the roustabout banana boat ride.
Praias Santa Eulalia, Maria Luisa and Praia dos Averios are all peaceful and secluded, the latter having a sub-aqua diving club. (Albufeira has a diving centre that offers lessons and below the waves excursions.) Busier, but ideal for families, with its flat beach and calm waters, is Praia deo Pescadores, Fisherman’s Beach, in Albufeira. If you are here during the summer you might find yourself in the middle of one of their amazing beach parties, some of the best in the Algarve.
