Things To Do in Carvoeiro
Carvoeiro Beach is all about quality not quantity. This is a beautiful little beach used by holiday makers from Portugal and abroad. Carvoeiro Beach is located in a sheltered sandy cove and perfect for relaxing in the sun and swimming in the sea. There are numerous nearby beaches to choose from including Benagil, Marinha and Carvalho.
The nightlife in Carvoeiro can be as low key or as lively as you wish. There is a good selection of music bars, discos and pubs to choose from in Carvoeiro. For a wider choice of night time venues head to nearby Portimao that boasts numerous night clubs, vibrant music bars and casinos.
Walking and sightseeing
The Cabo de Carvoeiro lighthouse is one of the sights worth seeing on one of the many cliff walks around the area. Also on the cliff above the village are the remains of the Fort of Senhora da Conceição, the construction of which begain in the 1670s. Inside the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação (Our Lady of the Incarnation), which was destroyed in the Lisbon earthquake of 1775 and rebuilt and renovated many times, most recently in 1942 and 1965.
Outdoor sports enthusiasts will not be disappointed by the range of sports activities available in Carvoeiro. Try your hand at tennis, horse riding or golf at one of the three golf courses. The four main beaches have many water activities available including surfing, jet-skiing, water-skiing and diving.
The opportunity to take a boat trip along the coast should not be missed. Trips are available from Carvoeiro to the nearby caves or simply to spot the dolphins. Fishermen will also hire their boats to those who wish to take leisurely tours along the coastline and stop off at secluded beaches.
Theme parks are a great alternative to the beaches and there are some excellent water parks that will delight both children and adults. Choose from the thrilling Slide and Splash water park or head to Zoomarine where you can actually swim with the dolphins.
As you would expect from a coastal resort Carvoeiro boasts some great seafood restaurants. Traditional dishes include delicious fish stews but other options include the mouth watering chicken piri. There are also numerous cafes and bars serving excellent homemade dishes and fast food outlets for a quick snack.
