Monarch Airways announces new flights, Air Southwest due to close, and Flight Centre predicts promising year ahead.Monarch Airways
Flight provider Monarch Airways has commenced flights new scheduled flights between Gatwick Airport and Barcelona. The service will operate daily and is priced at £36 for a one-way ticket, starting on 21 October. By 31 October, the amount of flights on this route will increase to 11 a week.
Air Southwest
Air Southwest, the Plymouth-based airline, has announced it will cease all flights and will no longer be in operation by the end of September, due to a lack of demand. On 14 September, all flights from Plymouth as well as those from Newquay to Glasgow, Guernsey, Jersey and Manchester will end. On 30 September, Newquay services to Aberdeen, Bristol, Cork, Dublin and Leeds Bradford will follow suite.
Flight Centre
Graham Turner, managing director of Flight Centre, has stated that the Australian-headquartered travel agency will be profitable for the first time in each of the 10 countries it operates wholly-owned businesses. The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported that the company – which has over 100 UK stores - has slightly lifted its full-year profit forecast.
