ibiza holidaysThe vast importance of tourism to the Island of Ibiza has been underlined by a recent report and statistics. The Balearic Centre of Investigation and Tourist Technology claims that in 2006, tourists spent €1,720 million, meaning an increase of 17.5% from 2005. On average, this is equal to each of Ibiza’s tourist spending €94.40 every day, which is €4 more than Menorca and €6 more than Mallorca.

However, Ibiza not only comes out on tops in terms of tourists spending money, the survey also showed that holidaymakers on the Island stay longer than their counterparts in the other Balearic Islands – 11.3 days,  which contrasts to 11.1 in Menorca and 10.9 in Mallorca.

Beach holidays are continuing to grow at a strong rate in Ibiza – helped by the fact the Island has some of the finest beaches in Europe. However, other sectors are also proving to be very strong including rural hotels and spas. Ibiza has also increased the number of major sports events which can attract a growing number of visitors, including Ruta de la Sal sailing Regatta and triathlons. In Spain, the number of tourist has risen up from 3% to 3.5 %, with many experts predicting that Ibiza's growth will be even greater, thanks to the healthy state of Spanish tourism and low cost flights.
