cheap flightsThailand’s Suvarnabhumi International airport has re-commenced a limited amount of flights following anti-government protests which have held up the airport over the last eight days.

On Wednesday, a passenger flight to Sydney operated by Thai Airways departed the airport, becoming the first international flight to depart Bangkok’s main airport in a week.

Additional flights were in operation overnight as the airport slowly starts to return to normal, whilst Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia, confirmed that the low-cost airline would resume all of its scheduled 90 daily flights departing Suvarnabhumi from today.

Other airlines ready to resume operations include Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific, both of which have insisted that flights to Bangkok will re-commence as soon as Thai officials officially state that the airport is ready.

Meanwhile, Bangkok’s smaller Don Mueang airport is expecting domestic carriers Nok Air and One-Two-Go to resume flights from this morning.

The Airports of Thailand (AoT) has said that it is doing everything in its power to return to normal services as quickly as possible.
