Stelios Plans For Glasgow EasyHotel
EasyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou is preparing to open the first easyHotel in Scotland later this year as soon as planning permission is granted for the Glasgow site.
Remarkably, the proposed site for the seven-story Glasgow easyHotel is right next door to a Travelodge. The close proximity of the two hotel rivals is set to ignite a budget hotel war, as whilst Travelodge currently charges £40 a night for a double room, easyHotel’s in London charges nearly half that price at £24.50 per room.
Calum Russell, easyHotel commercial director said,”The planning application is being processed and approval is expected shortly. There will be approximately 130 rooms in the hotel and, subject to planning, work will begin in April.
The easyHotel chain which promises basic, but cheap accommodation already operates 10 hotels around Europe, including six in London, two in Switzerland, one in Hungary and one in Cyprus. Experts believe the arrival of the easyHotel is good news for guests and the city of Glasgow itself as new hotels will make Glasgow city breaks a more attractive option. Claire Dunning, president of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce said: "This will be a strong addition to Glasgow's city centre hotel scene...The 25 jobs it will bring are also very welcome at this time."
