Snow Falls Early for Skiers

Friday, 29 October 2010

This Autumn has seen the snow arrive early for many ski resorts in Europe and North America, and according to the forecast there’s plenty more to fall over the next week.

The Austrian resort of Hintertux and French resort Tignes have experienced the heaviest snowfalls this week, already seeing up to 40cm of fresh snow. Both Swiss and Italian resorts have also seen 15cm fall and are expecting to see another 30cm in the coming days.

With many resorts in the United States opening over the next few weeks, the early snowfall has come as quite a shock to some. “The early season snowfalls we have seen this week have been quite significant for this time of year” said a spokeswoman for the Ski Club of Great Britain. The Keystone and Breckenridge resorts have both seen a lot of snow, but Jacksonhole has seen the most with 105cm this week alone.

Although all this snow is unexpected, it is nonetheless a very positive start for laying down the foundations of a new skiing season, good news for all those looking forward to their winter ski holiday.
