Ryanair To Begin Testing Off In-Flight Mobiles
Ryanair is to begin testing in-flight mobiles on ten of its aircraft by the middle of August. There are also plans to extend this to its remaining fleet of 164 within six months; a feat that will install Ryanair as the first airline to roll out this type of service.
Ryanair’s Daniel de Carvalho said: “Ryanair will assess the demand for in-flight mobiles during the tests, and of course take any complaints into consideration…I certainly believe our decision to go live will prompt other airlines to do the same”.
De Carvalho also stated that normal roaming charges would apply for mobile users and denied that Ryanair would be making huge profits from the service. The European Commission earlier this year gave the go-ahead for mobile phones to be used during flights and this was followed by approval from Ofcom, the telecoms watchdog.
