cruise holidaysRoyal Caribbean International’s latest cruise ship is to feature an open air park when it launches next year. The centre of the ship,  will be able to open up to reveal grounds the length of a football pitch featuring tables for alfresco dining, spaces for concerts and performances, flower gardens and trees which will grow more than two decks tall.

Makers Royal Caribbean say that the ‘Central Park’ will be a key feature of the as yet unnamed £700 million ship - codenamed Project Genesis.

The area, called Central Park, will be the first of seven “neighborhoods” to be revealed. Royal Caribbean also say that a ‘moving bar’ will span three decks, allowing customers to drink as they slowly ascend into Central Park and then descend back into the public spaces below.

Royal Caribbean Cruises chairman Richard Fain said: “This ship is a quantum leap in architecture and design and will deliver an unparalleled vacation experience to all who sail with us.”

At 359m (1,181ft) in length and 220,000 tonnes, the ship will be the largest cruise ship in the world, eclipsing Royal Caribbean’s current largest – the Independence of the Seas. Cruise holiday rivals P&O will today unveil the Ventura which is being formally named by Dame Helen Mirren in a ceremony in Southampton.
