Khatt Hot Springs
A short drive from RAK City through surprisingly lush agricultural countryside takes you to the oasis town of Khatt at the foot of the mountains. Natural springs produce water said to have healing properties. The attractive spa offers private pools and Ayurvedic treatments. This popular family picnic spot is a good opportunity to mix with the local population.
  
Souqs & Markets
The lively souqs and bazaars close to the sea in RAK City offer an entertaining opportunity to experience local culture. Go shopping for textiles, handicrafts, gold, jewellery, herbs, spices and souvenirs. Stroll along the creek to the morning fish market where traditional wooden dhow boats can be observed. Food markets are perfumed with the smell of mint and fresh bread. Mix with the locals in one of the charming market tea houses. Cross over the creek for modern-day shopping centres.
 
Beauty Spots
Several excursions from Ras al Khaimah head into the strikingly beautiful landscapes on the border with Oman. The dramatic Mussandam Peninsula is home to the ‘Fjords of the Middle East’, where the mountains drop steeply into the Straits of Hormuz. The spectacular Wadi Bih is a dramatic canyon with deserted villages and amazing views. Excursions to the quiet village of Asimah feature desert valleys, narrow gorges, lush gardens and fertile plantations.

Jazirat al-Hamra is one of the few remaining towns with a link to the past, with a defensive fortress, mosques and traditional coastal coral stone architecture. The Dhayah Fort offers superb views of the Arabian Gulf the mighty Hajjar Mountains. The waterfront offers the chance to observe the art of building traditional wooden dhow boats. See camels training at the camel racetrack among the desert dunes of Digdaga and Hamraniya. The race track is busiest during the popular Ras al Khaimah holiday winter season.
 
National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah
This fine museum is housed in a former fort and royal residence. This museum has an excellent collection of archaeological treasures, jewellery, weapons, costumes, sea shells and an insight into the emirate’s history.
