Jumeirah Beach Holidays
Pure white sands and turquoise waters
A relative newcomer to the tourist market, the desert city of Dubai is making a name for itself with its' stunning beaches, top-class hotels and fabulous duty-free shopping opportunities. A former fishing town in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai sits in a natural harbour in the Arabian Sea, and boasts pure white sands and turquoise waters. The resort of Jumeira Beach lies west of the city centre, and is home to some of the best luxury hotels in Dubai.
Home to numerous world-class hotels, offering the very best in luxury
The main beaches of Dubai are found along Jumeirah Road, which backs a long uninterrupted stretch of white sand, divided by private hotels. Non-guests have to pay to use these beaches, however there are a handful of public areas on the sand, which offer picnic areas, barbeques, childrens' play areas and food stalls. A host of luxury hotels line the beach at Jumeirah - upmarket names such as the Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton and the Hilton - and cater for both business travellers and tourists with a wealth of facilities. Jumeirah Beach is home to some of the most modern and forward-thinking designs architectually - some of the most unusual buildings on the skyline include the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, a unique hotel which curved shape has been built to represent a breaking wave, and the Burj Al Arab Hotel, one of the highest rated hotels in the world, which towers in the sky in the shape of a sailboat. All of the top-class hotels in Jumeirah Beach offer the finest in cosmopolitan restaurants and bars, and are set in stunning landscaped gardens, with palm trees and tropical plants. Hotel facilities available at Jumeirah Beach include tennis courts, driving ranges and putting greens, gyms, childrens' play areas, and top-of-range spas and healthclubs. An ideal location for sports enthusiasts, Jumeirah Beach offers a wealth of watersports, including banana-boat rides and jet-skis, water-skiing, wind-surfing, scuba-diving, sailing and parasailing. For those just looking to relax, the beach at Jumeirah has powdery soft white sand, and the blue waters of the Arabian Sea tend to stay extremely warm, even in the winter months, and perfect for swimming.
Explore the fascinating Middle Eastern culture
For those looking for a day off from the beach, most of the hotels in Jumeirah Beach offer a shuttle bus service to various sites around Dubai, with taxis readily available. Most visitors make the trip to the Mall of Emirates, the largest shopping centre outside of North America, with over 200 shops and a great selection of cafes and restaurants. Dubais' attractions include the old quarter of Bastakia, with its' historic old houses, and various covered markets and souks, where visitors can try out their haggling, including the Gold Souk and the Spice Souk. The Heritage Village in Shindagah shows craftsmen such as potters and weavers at their work, and the Dubai Museum is a must for those interested in the history of the city. Attractions close to Jumeirah include the Jumeirah Mosque, one of the few which give tours to non-Moslems, Dubai Zoo, and the Wild Wadi Water Park.
