Bugibba Holidays – Affordable fun getaway on Malta’s north coast

One of the most popular tourist destinations on the whole of Malta, Bugibba remains an affordable option for your holiday to this sunny Mediterranean isle this year. The lively Bugibba boasts a host of modern facilities, action-packed entertainment, and vibrant nightlife, making it an excellent choice if you’re looking for an established resort, with a youthful atmosphere.

Located on the north coast of the island, Bugibba sits on Malta’s rocky shoreline, next to Qawra and St. Paul’s Bay, and although there is no beach here, there are many platforms and lidos lining the shore, which act as a great base for sunbathing and swimming in the warm waters of the bay. Package holidays to Bugibba provide all you need for a week or two in a well-developed resort, with accommodation to suit every budget, thanks to the extensive choice of hotels, self-catering apartments and studios available here.

When to go

The tourist season in Bugibba runs from April to October, with the busy weeks in mid-July and August being the most popular time to come, and seeing high demand and the most expensive prices. Spring and autumn can be a good time to visit, as the temperature is a little cooler and the prices are lower, although the resort has a more laid-back vibe. Bugibba is also open for business as a winter sun destination, and sees a much quieter atmosphere and pleasant mild weather.

The best beaches in Bugibba

Bugibba sits on a long rocky coastline and connects up to Qawra, offering a series of flat rocks, lidos and bathing platforms where you can base yourself for the day. This area is typical of the island, which is generally made up a series of little bays and coves, and this rugged shoreline offers cosy spots for sunbathing and swimming, as well as a few sandy beaches. Here are our picks for the best three beaches in the Bugibba area:

Best beach for sunbathing – Mellieha Bay

One of the only sandy beaches on the island, Mellieha Bay is located 8km away, and an easy bus ride from Bugibba. The longest on Malta, the beach is a family-friendly golden stretch, made up of three sections, with shallow waters and a number of convenient facilities.

Best beach for activities – Bugibba/Qawra

Home to lively water sports centres, the local shores offer a host of exhilarating activities to try, from jet skiing and banana boat rides, to snorkelling and scuba diving, with the lively promenade also buzzing with convenient shops, bars and restaurants.

Best beach for isolation – Fomm Ir-Rih Bay

For a complete change of scene, venture to the west coast and discover the wild cove at Fomm Ir-Rih Bay. Remote and secluded, with no facilities, this pebble beach can only be accessed by a steep path, but the trek is well worth it if you’re in search of a tranquil spot with crystal-clear waters, and stunning views.
