The Kurumba Island resort hotel is the longest established island resort in the Maldives, and arguably one of the prettiest in the archipelago. It also benefits from being the closest resort to the airport, at only 3km away. A picture-postcard tropical paradise, Kurumba is a jewel in the Indian Ocean. Kurumba Island is located in the North Male Atoll, approximately 10 minutes by speedboat from the capital Male and its airport. The island has its own house reef, with colourful living coral growing on the ancient submarine volcanic landscape that forms the island. Scuba diving here is fantastic and offers the chance to see thousands of different types of tropical underwater flora as well as exotic animals such as sea turtles and Manta Ray. Given its close proximity, guests can also take day trips to Male; the smallest capital city in the world.

 

Accommodation at the Kurumba Island resort consists of 180 villas and bungalows, dotted about the 30 acre island amongst the lush green tropical foliage. Shaded paths connect the accommodation to one another and key areas of the resort. There are a range of room options available, from Superior to the Royal Residence. Superior rooms sleep 2 adults. Al rooms come with double or twin beds, air-conditioning, satellite TV, minibar, internet, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and terrace. Luxury touches include a walk-in dressing room, beautiful bathroom with sandstone tiles, stand-alone bath tub and indoor and outdoor showers.

 

The resort provides an excellent range of facilities. There are 2 freshwater swimming pools surrounded by sun terraces, as well as 2 separate children’s pools. Guests have a choice of 7 restaurants to dine at, with a wide variety of options including Italian, Lebanese, Indian, Japanese, Chinese and the Vihamana serving table d'hote menus. Refreshments and evening entertainment is provided by the poolside bar, beach bar and karaoke bar. There is a gym for those wanting to maintain their fitness, as well as 3 flood-lit tennis courts, a volleyball court, table tennis and sports area. A huge array of watersports can be experienced here such as scuba diving, sea kayaking, water-skiing, tube riding, wake boarding, parasailing, banana boating, windsurfing and snorkelling. For the ultimate in relaxation there is the Veli Spa offering manicures, pedicures, a steam room, hydrotherapy and many more treatments. Other facilities include a gift shop, laundry service, coffee shop, internet access and library.
