The medieval town of Montone lies close to Perugia, Anghiari and Cortona in northern Umbria, and enjoys an idyllic location on a hilltop overlooking the River Tiber. Like other towns in the region, Montone experiences a mild Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and colder winters, and enjoys an average annual temperature of 18C.
