The Town
This well-preserved medieval village is peaceful and authentic, and thanks to its location well-hidden from the highway, has remained authentic and unspoilt. The centre boasts narrow cobbled streets and alleyways, a handful of local shops and restaurants, and a lively local piazza to linger in.
 
Countryside
Whilst the town is the perfect retreat for a relaxing holiday in Italy, the rolling Umbrian countryside creates an idyllic backdrop which can easily be explored on leisurely strolls and scenic drives, or just lazily admired from the towns' rustic villas and farmhouses.
 
Hiking
Active visitors can fully explore the landscape while following some of the trails and footpaths that meander through the hills and valleys. There's a host of hikes and itineraries to suit all level of walker and rambler, and great bird-watching for enthusiasts.

As well as discovering the great outdoors, many of the various rustic villas and farmhouses in the town boast swimming pools, and there are facilities for golf, horse riding and fishing in the area. 
 
Food & Drink
Montone is famous for local truffles, with 'truffle hunts' taking place during the late autumn, and the prize featuring heavily in the cuisine of the area. Other regional specialities include panzanella and 'torta bianca', as well as pastas and roasted meats. With the region full of lush vineyards, wine tours and tastings are an excellent way to sample the local vintages.
 
Classes
From Italian cookery demonstrations to pottery and art classes, the area is an ideal place to learn a new skill, with the atmospheric landscape and peaceful ambience adding to the charm.
 
Festivals
The Umbrian Film Festival takes place each July, attracting many visitors each year, whilst a medieval week in August hosts historical plays and pageants.
 
Day Trips
Montone lies just off the main highway in Umbria, so getting around is very easy, with other places to visit including Perugia, Cortona, Anghiari, Gubbio, Siena, Assisi and Lake Trasimeno. The major sights of Tuscany are well within reach, and day trips to Florence are possible.
