Golf
Heaven! The wonderful 18 hole Perugia golf club is within easy reach of Assisi and has an excellent golf school where you can take golf lessons. Founded at the end of the 50s Perugia has a charming Club House, built in 1921 and carefully integrated with two historic limekiln towers.
Colfiorito National Park
The Colfiorito national park covers a huge and gorgeously wild, flat area of countryside between the regions of Umbria and Marche, sitting high up at 800 meters above sea level. The park features seven spectacular natural valleys, once the bottoms of ancient lakes which have since dried out. A vast area to explore, walk in and picnic in.
Beaches
Nearby Lake Trasimeno offers great bathing and swimming, with nine lovely, clean white beaches to choose from. You’ll find a load of excellent facilities around the lake’s shore: swimming-pools, a good golf club, several horse riding schools, well-kept football pitches, great tennis courts for hire and, of course, countless miles of beautiful country to explore along the lake shore.
Heavenly eating out
Assisi and the surrounding area are famed for having the best selection of fish restaurants in Umbria. These many superb eateries specialise fresh water fish dishes like carp cooked over a wood fire and the unique, utterly delicious Tegamaccio, a soup made of a variety of mouth watering local fish cooked in white wine, olive oil and herbs.
Islands and boat trips
Lake Trasimeno includes three islands; Isola Polvese, Maggiore and Minore. Maggiore, the second largest island, is inhabited which makes it popular with sailing and motorboat tours as well as a good destination if you can handle a rowing boat with confidence!
Water sports
If you fancy doing a bit more than just lying around on the beach, it goes without saying that Lake Trasimeno offers active and adventurous holidaymakers a great deal of fun! You’ll find an array of places offering water skiing lessons, and there’s a good choice of sailing and windsurfing schools.
