Vinci Things To Do
Leonardo da Vinci
The birthplace of the great artist and inventor, Vinci is dedicated to its most famous son, with a celebration of his life everywhere in this timeless town, giving visitors a real insight into the genius of the man. A museum housing one of the largest collections of his work and the house where he was born are two of the major attractions here.
Museum
The Museo Leonardino can be found in the town's 13th-century castle, which dominates Vinci, and displays an incredible array of his workings, including models of his inventions and machines.
Library
Biblioteca Leonardiana, the town's library, houses the largest reference section on the artist and boasts replicas of the complete series of his writings and drawings.
Birthplace
The house where Leonardo de Vinci was born in Anchiano, just 3km from Vinci, has been recently restored and is now part of the museum. Open to the public, visitors are able to tour this simple farmhouse, and view displays and replicas of his writings, manuscripts and maps.
Countryside
The rolling Tuscan hills create an idyllic backdrop for the town, full of olive groves and vineyards, with the rural and unspoilt landscape perfect for scenic walks, hikes and bike rides.
Local Cuisine
Vinci is located in a very rich agricultural region, and is known for its exceptional extra virgin olive oil and Chianti wines. The village is home to some great local restaurants serving simple rustic food featuring Tuscan specialities such as beans, truffles, bread soups, pasta and cured meats.
