Gallicano Things To Do
Tours
A holiday in Gallicano means you are ideally located to take one of the many tours around the Garfagnana region and beyond. You will find something new around every corner whether you are trekking through the Apuane and Orecchiella National Parks or visiting traditional Italian towns such as Barga. Tuscany is of course famous for its spectacular scenery and countryside around Gallicano is reminiscent of an Italian masterpiece.
Day Trips
Day trips from Gallicano to the nearby cities of Lucca, Pisa and Florence are a must. These cities boast inspirational architecture, the finest Italian restaurants, amazing shopping opportunities and culture around every corner. The medieval town of Barga is a step back in time with its winding streets, alleyways and relaxing taverns.
Dining Out
Italian food does not come much more authentic than the restaurants in Gallicano. For traditional home made pastas, pizzas and Italian soups try the little inns dotted around the village. Nearby Lucca boasts some amazing first class restaurants such as La Buca di Sant'Antonio which dates back before 1782 and is a premier Italian restaurant. You will fall in love with Italian cuisine once you have tasted their spit-roast lamb.
Sightseeing
Strolling around the winding streets of Gallicano is a pleasure in itself but don’t forget to view La Grotto Del Vento, which means Caves of the Wind. This underground complex of caves runs for around 4170 metres. There are plenty of museums in and around Gallicano, and Lucca has enough Italian artefacts and archaeological finds to keep any culture vulture happy.
Sports
There is an abundance of sports available in Gallicano for those that prefer an active holiday. Tennis, horse riding, swimming and fishing are all popular pastimes. Lucca has its own challenging 18-hole golf course although the views of the sea and the Apuani Alps may take your breath away as you tee off.
