Colle Val d'Elsa Things To Do
The Town
Colle Val d'Elsa comprises three different areas - with the two oldest settlements, Borgo di Santa Caterina and Castello di Piticciano, making up the original medieval town at the top of the hill, and boasting a charming centre full of historic buildings including the remains of the 13th-century walls. The more modern Il Piano, located lower down the valley, is the industrial centre.
Walking Tours
There are organised walking tours to follow throughout the different parts of town, which take in the history and culture of Colle Val d'Elsa and highlight some of the more interesting sights to see, whilst the old town itself is ideal for casual strolls along cobbled streets and past grand palazzos.
Glass Production
Known as 'Crystal City', Colle Val d'Elsa is famous for its glass production, in particular the lead-glass crystal, and no trip to the town is complete without browsing the works of art produced here, or indeed taking home a beautiful piece as a souvenir.
Museums
The town has three museums - the Museum of Lead Crystal Glass, the Museum of Civic and Religious Art, and the Archaeological Museum.
Countryside
Chianti is full of delightful countryside to explore either on scenic drives or during leisurely walks and more energetic hikes, and discovering the classic Tuscan landscapes, dotted with cypress trees, vineyards and quaint hilltop towns, is a major attraction for visitors to Colle Val d'Elsa.

Rent mountain bikes and ride from town to town through picture-postcard settings, or enjoy a casual cycle through the countryside finding idyllic spots to enjoy the scenery.
Horse Riding
Another popular activity, horse riding is a fantastic way to get close to nature and explore the Chianti countryside, with stables in the area offering varied trips for all levels of rider.

Colle Val d'Elsa has facilities for swimming, tennis, golf, soccer and shooting, whilst many of the local villas and farmhouses boast pools and tennis courts, too. Hot-air ballooning is a popular activity in the region.
