Sicily Weather
Sicily Weather - Enjoy the fruits of Sicily’s well-nourished land
The warm Mediterranean weather in Sicily is the lifeblood of the island, its culture and its produce. Generous winter rainfall and clement spring weather ensure the mountain slopes of Sicily’s interior are rich with flowers and scents. Meanwhile the heat of summer guarantees welcomingly warm sea water to delight holiday visitors, and ensures fruit trees will be abundant with figs, olives, peaches, oranges and lemons. Sicily is affected by the Sirocco wind, which blows hot, humid air across from North Africa, so don’t be surprised by searing hot days from as early as June. The gorgeous beaches and historic landmarks of Sicily are certainly best enjoyed if you have come with plenty of sun protection.
Sicily Weather - Summer sun in abundance
Sunshine hours in Sicily average four to five hours a day in winter, and up to eleven hours in summer. Italy’s most famous island, which is also the largest island in the Mediterranean, can be incredibly hot during the peak weeks of summer - with temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius in July and August. However Sicily’s weather does benefit from cooling sea breezes on the coast. If you are visiting Sicily in the height of summer, be prepared for hot, humid nights though.
Sicily Weather - Escape the mainland's autumn rain
The extreme south of mainland Italy, and the islands of Sicily and Sardinia all have fewer wet days than the rest of the country. In autumn Indian summers are a regular feature of Sicily’s weather cycle, with temperatures remaining in the high 20s in September and early October. Sicily is lucky enough to miss many of the big storms that douse mainland Italy’s southern peninsula in autumn.
