Weather in the Lombardy Region
The climate in the Lombardy region of Italy contrasts between Mediterranean summer sunshine and bracing Alpine winters that are perfect for skiing breaks. The hot summer months can see temperatures around Lake Como and Lake Maggiore reaching 25C for 10 hours of constant sunshine per day. The springtime season of April and May is usually slightly cooler but still pleasantly warm with temperatures hitting 15C, giving around eight hours of sunshine. The Lombardy region is particularly beautiful during spring, the trees and flowers are beginning to blossom and there are less crowds, making it perfect for a relaxing Easter break.

The majestic Lombardy lakes are incredibly beautiful during the summer months and the sunshine is one of the reasons for their popularity at this time of year. The Alpine mountains provide a natural shelter from the wind and with 10 hours of sunshine per day, it is easy to relax, sunbathe and catch a tan. It rarely rains during the summer months in the Lombardy region, Milan averages around 47mm of rain during this time and the lake region itself is lower at 20mm.  During late August and early September the colours are magnificent, the grapes are being harvested and days are warm and pleasant with a temperature of around 20C.

Winter in the Lombardy region is a top destination for ski enthusiasts. The ski resorts of Livigno and Bormio, near the Swiss border, become postcard pretty and temperatures are around eight to 10C. The lakes are very quiet at this time of year and may well be enveloped in mist. A winter holiday in the Lombardy region not only offers first class skiing but a chance to see Milan during its most lively and bustling time of the year.
