Liguria Region Things To Do
Explore historic Genoa
The main city in the Liguria region is also one of the most atmospheric in the whole of Italy. Navigate your way round the rabbit warren of medieval streets oozing character, or discover the re-vamped Porto Antico boasting scores of attractions including an aquarium, ice skating, swimming pool and open air performances.
Unwind on the Italian Riviera
Holidays in the Liguria region boast a seemingly endless coastline. The more accessible western Riviera di Poneanta makes the ideal destination for a perfect beach holiday. The appealing mix of sandy beaches, Italian food and hospitality is hard to beat.
Discover traditional fishing villages
The more rugged Riviera di Levante to the east of Genoa is home to the stunning 'Cinque Terre.' These five tiny fishing villages offer a glimpse of Italy as it used to be. Linked by a breathtakingly beautiful coastal walking path, this trip should not be missed on a holiday in Italy.
Take the train
If you are after a break from the beach, a great way to experience the spectacular mountain scenery of Liguria is to take the train from Genoa to Casella. For a few euros the 55 minute ride on an ancient narrow-gauge train is a great way to explore the real Italy.
Live it up in Portofino
For a glimpse of the jet set lifestyle; take a trip to Portofino, a millionaire’s playground of yachts, expensive boutiques and exclusive restaurants in a picturesque coastal setting. To be kinder to your credit card head to the equally pretty but more down to earth resort of Santa Margherita Ligure right next door.
Escape to the sleepy centre
As most people head to Liguria to enjoy the wonderful beaches, things can get crowded at times. If you need a break from the bustle of the coast, head inland where things are a little quieter. Sleepy, traditional villages, swathes of olive groves, walks in the mountains or picnics by pretty rivers await.
