Lake Trasimeno Holidays

Lake Trasimeno is located on the north-eastern side of Umbria, close to the border of Tuscany and only 20 kilometres from the city of Perugia. This centre of history and culture can truly be described as the heart of Italy and true to this nature Lake Trasimeno can be easily reached via any of a number of the nations airports. Perugia’s S. Egidio airport is the closest, however a two hour drive to the south is the city of Rome where the traveller can make use of Rome Ciampino or Rome Fiumicino airports. Just one example is the historic centre of Castiglione Del Lago which boasts a medieval castle as well as the renaissance “palazzo del commune” or town hall which has now become a museum. Along the north shore of the Lake Trasimeno are the picturesque medieval towns of Tuoro and Passignano offering stunning views of the lake. When tiring of the shore why not take a trip to one of the three islands of Lake Trasimeno. Isla Maggiore is the only continually inhabited island. It has a population of 30 and a Franciscan monastery that dates from the 1300s.
