Lake Iseo Holidays

In the northern region of Lombardy lies the beautiful Lake Iseo. The lake is divided almost perfectly between the provinces of Bergamo to the west and Brescia to the east. Lake Iseo is an area of outstanding natural beauty perfect for a romantic holiday. A holiday to Lake Iseo is easily accessible from a number of the regions airports. Orio al serio airport is a mere 40 kilometres west of the lake, while Montichiari airport is 50 kilometres to the west. Both airports are served by Ryanair from numerous European destinations. For those coming from further afield there is the international hub of Milan Malpensa catering to most major international flag carriers.

 

The picturesque setting of this lesser known northern Italian lake is a must see on your lake holiday. On the Bergamo side of Lake Iseo are a number of alluring towns not to be missed during your lake holiday. Lovere is a medieval fortified town with a charming lakeside promenade and a variety of bars and restaurants on the attractive piazza 13^th Martiri. A peaceful evening cruise is offered every Saturday during July and August. At Lake Iseo’s narrowest point one will find the town of Sarnico. The town has a number of good bars and restaurants and the splendid liberty villas are certainly worth a look.

 

The biggest town on the lake shore is Iseo; a pleasant spot known for its wide promenades and numerous piazzas. From Iseo one can catch a boat to the pretty island of Monte Isola. At 5km square, this is Europe’s biggest lake island. A jaunt around the island following the 15km track makes for a lovely day out during the cooler months of the year. Only the doctor, priest and police are allowed to drive on the island making this a truly peaceful place to be. At the northern end of Lake Iseo, one can find the two national parks of Parco dell’Adamello and Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio, offering spectacular alpine scenery and numerous walks around the regions most picturesque settings.
