Weather in Lake Garda - Warm balmy climate around Italy's largest lake
Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy, is located in the northern part of the country, half-way between Venice and Milan. The lake experiences a typically-Mediterranean climate, with balmy warm weather, and hot sunny days during the peak season summer months. The average annual temperature in Lake Garda is 18C.
Lake Garda Weather - Peak season months from June to September
Spring is a popular time to visit Lake Garda, when the weather is warm, and there is plenty of sunshine. This can be an ideal time for a holiday for those who don't like the intense heat of the summer, with the region also benefitting from fewer crowds. April sees highs of 18C, with May rising to 22C, however these spring days can see between 80mm - 90mm of rainfall each month, and the water temperature during this time only reaching 10C - 18C. June heats up in Lake Garda, with the air temperature rising to 26C, and the peak season months of July and August seeing an average of 28C - 29C. Temperatures can reach as high as the mid-30C's during these hot summer months, however the ever-present breezes - the northern, 'vento' and the south, 'ora', flow through the region each morning and afternoon and help to temper the high heat. The water temperature in the lake hovers between 17C - 26C, and during the summer most visitors head to the water to indulge in the vast selection of water sports on offer. The warmest waters of the lake are found in the southern region, whilst windsurfers will experience the best wind conditions in the northern part of Garda. Summer still sees some rain, with the driest month of July receiving 68mm.

Autumn begins to cool down, with September still seeing great weather with an average temperature of 25C, 7 hours of sunshine and water temperatures of 22C, and October dipping down to 19C, with 4 hours of sun each day. There is more rain during this time, with November receiving over 100mm of rainfall. Winter see colder weather in Lake Garda, with January experiencing the lowest temperatures - around 6C, and only 4 hours of sunshine each day. The lake does stay warmer than other regions in Northern Italy, as the mountains help to shield the lake from the harsh cold weather.
