Weather in Galle - Tropical climate on Sri Lanka's southwest tip
Galle lies on the south-west tip of Sri Lanka, 75 miles from Columbo. The town experiences a hot tropical climate, and the monthly temperature remains around 29C - 31C throughout the year, with monsoons from the Indian Ocean affecting the levels of rainfall and humidity. Galle's south-westerly location means it sees wetter weather and more humid conditions than areas in the north and the eastern regions of Sri Lanka.
 
Weather in Galle - Hot dry conditions during the winter season
The tourist season in Galle runs from December to March, when the area experiences the northeast monsoon and conditions are ideal for a relaxing holiday on the coast. Temperatures range from 29C - 31C, and this period sees the driest weather of the year, accompanied by 7 - 8 hours of sunshine each day. Rainfall levels during the winter vary from 180mm in December, to around 100mm in January and February. The temperature of the Indian Ocean around Galle remains high, around 28C, during the tourist season - ideal for swimming and water sports on the nearby beaches.  
 
Weather in Galle - Summer monsoons bring heavy rains
The southwest monsoon affects Galle from June to September, with rainfall levels increasing in April and May, when as much as 300mm can fall during the month. Summer sees a steady 200mm of rain each month, rising to 350mm in October and November. Temperatures remain high, with averages of 29C during the summer season, and the town seeing a constant 6 hours of sunshine.
