Beaches
Tropical get away beaches do not come much better than Waikkal Beach. Holidaymakers can choose from Waikkal Beach or nearby beautiful Negombo Beach; both feature long stretches of pristine sand lapped by the warm Indian Ocean waters. Waikkal beaches are not overrun with holidaymakers and are the perfect place to stretch out, relax and swim in the crystal clear ocean waters.
Sightseeing
There is a diverse range of sightseeing options available from Waikkal. Sightseeing tours can include the spectacular cave complex at Dambulla and historical sites such as the Sigiriya Rock Fortress standing 200 metres high. A tour of the Uda Walawe National Park will provide views of the wild elephants and the orphaned elephants at the Elephant Transit Home.
Sports Activities
Waikkal’s all year round hot climate makes water sports a very popular activity. Snorkelling, water-skiing, fishing, scuba diving and windsurfing are all available. Land based sports in Waikkal can include tennis, cycling, beach volleyball, horseback riding and sand boarding.
Day trips
Day trips from Waikkal can include the central town of Kandy set on the banks of a river and surrounded by the stunning tropical jungle. Trips to the Temple of the Tooth relic and the botanical gardens can also be included. The vibrant city of Colombo is less than an hour from Waikkal and a few trips will be needed to take in the colourful bazaars, first class restaurants and the spectacular temples.
Boat trips
Private boat trips from Waikkal can include stops at deserted beaches along the coast for swimming and snorkelling. Boat trips can also be taken along the river and to the lagoon to view the colourful wildlife; kayaking along the river is also available.
