Koggala Weather

Weather in Koggala – Hot tropical setting all year round
Like most equatorial countries Sri Lanka retains a tropical climate for the full year. Daytime temperatures in Koggala rarely dip below 30C and nights are rarely colder than 22C in the winter months, 24C in the summer months. The heat and humidity are constant all year round – rated high, but not very high – and thus gentler than some other areas of Sri Lanka such as Ahungalla. The UV index is rated a constant 11+, classified as extreme, so sun block is essential. 12/13 hours of daylight a day, with between 6 and 8 hours of sunshine depending on the time of year, can be expected. Since Koggala is located on the south coast it is a little drier than some other neighbouring resorts, but the amount of rainfall does not differ hugely along these coastal areas. Rain tends to occur in the afternoon and is often accompanied by thunder.

Koggala Weather – The ultimate beach weather
Like all coastal Sri Lankan resorts Koggala offers weather that is ideal for beach lovers. During the summer months of June through August there are around 6 hours of sunshine a day, and rainfall is lower than in spring and autumn when it peaks. Summer visitors are looking at between 10 and 12 days of rain a month on average, with rainfall of between 6.8 and 8 inches in a month. Temperatures, of course, are high all year round, and at this time 29C during the day and 24C at night is the norm. Coastal breezes take the edge off the heat; Kogalla mostly experiences westerly winds that blow east along the coast.

Weather in Koggala – Non-summer visits
Thanks to its year-round tropical climate Koggala is a great place to visit if holidaying in the British winter, or even spring and autumn. The resort enjoys the most regular sunshine in February and March, and its highest temperatures in March, April and May. Rainfall is at its highest in May, October and November and so visiting in these months may not be optimal – January, February and March experience the least rain. Thanks to the combination of low rainfall, long days and high temperatures February and March may be the best time to visit Koggala – although whenever you do choose to visit, you’re guaranteed plenty of fantastic weather.
