Raa Atoll Holidays
Raa Atoll Holidays - A true desert island experience
Raa Atoll may be a little further away from the capital Male than some more popular Maldivian destinations, but its relative isolation makes it one of the most unspoilt atolls currently open to tourism. That said, Raa Atoll’s capital, Ungoofaaru, is still only 136km from Male and can be reached in around 45 minutes by seaplane. You’ll find 88 islands in this sun-drenched atoll, only 16 of which are inhabited – creating a true desert island experience for those fortunate enough to spend time here.
The islanders of Raa Atoll have been traditionally famous as skilled boatbuilding carpenters and it is only relatively recently that the development of an island resort has opened up this area to tourists. Even now, development is limited to a single island, so if it’s splendid isolation you’re looking for this could be the resort for you. Meedhupparu Island is Raa Atoll’s sole resort and offers guests a veritable 5-star luxury experience.
Meedhupparu Island - Adaaran Select Meedhupparu
The Adaaran Select Meedhupparu (also recently known as Meedhupparu Island Resort) is a fantastic 5-star luxury resort on a formerly uninhabited island in Raa Atoll. Offering a selection of beach villas and luxury water villas, this resort has a genuinely upmarket feel. There are many attractions for sports enthusiasts including tennis, table tennis, beach volleyball and a gym. With a sauna, steam room, spa facilities and shopping arcade there are enough land-based activities to keep you away from the water for long-stretches. But inevitably the water will lure you back in, whether it’s for a refreshing dip in the luxurious resort pool or exploring the house reef with the resident dive school or taking advantage of the full range of water sports on offer.
