North Male Atoll is located on the eastern side of the Maldives, and is the hub of the tourist activity in the region. Home to the international airport and the capital, Male, North Male Atoll attracts many visitors to its shores each year, lured as much by its tropical climate as the idyllic beaches and exotic setting. The region boasts year-round temperatures that hover around 30C, and an abundance of daily sunshine. The best time to visit is from December to April when conditions are optimum.

Weather in North Male Atoll is affected by the region's two monsoons - the northeast and the southwest. The northeast brings dry warm weather, and blows through from November to March, with this period seeing the driest conditions. January, February and March see the least amount of rainfall in North Male Atoll - from 68mm - 90mm - and a high but fairly comfortable level of humidity. April sees an increase in temperature - up to 32C - a rise in humidity and an increase in rainfall. Sea temperatures during the winter season remain warm and pleasant, with the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean reaching 28C - 29C each month - ideal for swimming and water sports. North Male Atoll does see higher temperatures and less rainfall than areas in the south.
