Weather in North Atoll - Tropical climate in the Maldives
North Atoll holidays are located in the north region of the Maldives, and feature a hot tropical climate throughout these idyllic islands in the Indian Ocean. The North Atoll region does see slightly drier weather and higher temperatures than the south, however in general the conditions are hot and sunny throughout the year in the Maldives. The weather is affected by the two monsoons that blow through the region - the dry northeast and the wet southwest - with the best time to visit being the British winter time, when there is little rainfall, constant blue skies and plenty of high temperatures.
North Atoll Weather - Winters see ideal conditions for a beach holiday
The northeast monsoon hits the North Atoll islands in November and runs through until March, bringing dry warm weather - ideal for a beach holiday. Temperatures hover around 30C throughout the winter period, and the region sees between 7 - 9 hours of sunshine every day. January to March sees limited rainfall - between 68mm - 90mm - and the beginning of the year experiences the most comfortable levels of humidity. March begins to see higher humidity, and by April - the hottest month - the temperature has risen to 32C. Sea temperatures in the winter remain warm and very pleasant, with the highs of 28C - 29C each month meaning great conditions for swimming and water sports. A major scuba diving destination, the best time for the sport in North Atoll is from January to May, or from August to November.
Weather in North Atoll - Wetter summers, still plenty of sunshine
May sees the beginning of the southwest monsoon, which brings 211mm of rainfall during the month. The period from June to December sees a fairly constant level of rainfall - around 150mm - 200mm - with October being another very wet month experiencing 229mm. Summers see average temperatures of 30C and at least 7 hours of sunshine.
