Divar Island Holidays
Scenic ferry ride from the capital city, Panjim
Divar Island is situated 10km from the city of Panjim, and lies a ferry ride across the Mandovi River from the wharf at Old Goa. Boasting traditional Goan countryside and dotted with lush green paddy fields, the island is known as a famous Hindu pilgrimage and displays great local charm in a very unspoilt setting. Holidays to Divar Island would suit those looking to experience a genuine slice of Goan village, and enjoy a relaxing break away from the more commercial beach resorts along the coast.
Quiet and tranquil base, away from the crowds
Quiet and peaceful, Divar Island offers a true taste of local Goan flavour, from the swaying palms and lush greenery to the traditional Portuguese villas and sleepy village life. Accommodation options on Divar Island range from basic guesthouses and garden cottages to 5-star ayurvedic spa resorts offering luxury lodgings with a laid-back atmosphere in tranquil surroundings, far from the beaten track. The main village on Divar Island is Piedade, small and picturesque, and home to old Portuguese architecture and the Church of Our Lady of Compassion. There are great views out across the river, as well as across the green landscapes, especially from the church which sits high up on a hilltop. Known as a famous Hindu pilgrimage site, Divar Island plays host to the famous Bonderam Festival (or Feast of the Harvest) which takes place in August every year, during the monsoon season.
