Colva Holidays in Goa
Colva, the largest and oldest of all the resorts in South Goa, is the most lively and commercial of this part of Goa, offering visitors a beautiful beach with a good choice of amenities. Lying just 6km from the main commercial centre of South Goa, Margao, Colva developed as a retreat for the affluent high-society of the town, and continues today to be a popular choice with the locals. Colva is a rapidly developing beach resort, with plenty of hotels and tourist facilities appearing fairly recently to serve the increasing amount of package-holiday visitors.

A beautiful romantic beach with white powdery sand
Colva Beach is a wonderful 25km stretch of powdery white sand, backed by coconut trees. The sand is clean and strewn with numerous shells, and the crystal-clear waters of the Arabian Sea provide safe swimming conditions. Fishing boats lay off the shore and the beach is lined with many shacks and stands selling refreshments and souvenirs. Colva has many restaurants along the seafront serving fish and seafood, and the resort offers a huge choice of reasonably priced Goan and Portuguese restaurants. The nightlife in Colva is lively for South Goa, but nothing like the party-like atmosphere of the resorts in the north. There is accommodation to suit all budgets in Colva, with many hotels along the beach, and the resort is still home to colonial-style houses and villas which add to its’ charm.

Popular with locals and tourists alike
Colva is popular with international tourists and Goans alike, with weekends being especially busy, and Sundays’ Beach Bonzana having a carnival atmosphere, with music and dancing. The church in the village square, Our Lady of Mercy, holds one of the most popular annual religious festivals in Goa - the Fama of Menino Jesuse - which has been going since the 17th century and involves a feast and procession in honour of the baby Jesus.

Colva Weather – Consistently warm temperatures
The weather in Covla is typical of that experienced throughout the rest of Goa. There are generally no extremes in temperature, yet consistent temperatures ensure whenever you take your holiday it is likely to be warm, pleasant and sunny. Average temperatures vary between 25C - 30C whilst the average daily hours of sunshine are nine to ten hours in summer and three to five hours during monsoon. The dry season lasts six to eight months a year, followed by the annual period of rainfall, which occurs over the remaining four months.
