5 Star Holidays
Chi-chi and selective
Strictly speaking, there is no formal rating for a 5 star holiday, and can be as much a judgement of how wonderful you thought your holiday was as to how luxurious the hotel or resort you stayed at. But simply describing somewhere as ‘five star’ gives you a good idea of the quality and service you can expect – and it’s going to be pretty high.
So what can you expect from a holiday with so many stars twinkling in its own firmament? At the very least, a superior level of service and customer care, greater attention to detail and individual requirements, a sense of exclusivity and calm away from large holiday crowds. Hotels and resorts of this level offer superior stylish accommodation and are synonymous with fine dining – and will be constantly upgrading and revamping facilities and accommodation to perfect the full 5 star holiday experience. Luxurious spas, first-class sports and health facilities, and exotic therapies for mind and body are usually an integral part of these luxurious holidays, leaving you relaxed, rejuvenated and with a luscious feeling of having been pampered.
The demand for ‘that something special’ has led to an explosion of stylish country hotels, city apartments and luxury purpose-built beach resorts where you can completely switch off from the outside world. With so many exotic destinations worldwide, sumptuous holidays of this kind are becoming increasingly popular and, with increasing competition and falling air fares, are often less costly than you might imagine, as many are offered on an all-inclusive basis, particularly in the Caribbean and small island resorts.
Romance, adventure, indulgence and relaxation
The image of pampered total relaxation in an exotic location is the one that usually springs to mind, but many holidaymakers combine modest opulence with sporting activities and adventure. Golf is a perfect example; most top-flight golf courses these days have equally top-class hotels, but imagine returning from a day camel riding in the Sahara Desert to a haima, a traditional Arab tent fully equipped with a lavish bathroom and thick Moroccan rugs on the floor (you can even have your own splash pool inside the haima itself!) and feast on cuisine worthy of any Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris. Indulging in a holiday such as this a perfect way to celebrate those ultra-special occasions, such as weddings and anniversaries, (although equally delicious at any time), and are a popular choice with honeymoon couples and unrepentant romantics.
A fabulous choice of worldwide luxury
While most people associate 5 star holidays with exotic destinations like the Caribbean, the Maldives, Mauritius or Thailand, which offer a romantic desert island experience with pristine tropical beaches, superb service and fine cuisine, there are plenty to be found nearer home: a Spanish Andalusian ranch, a Portuguese mansion or the gorgeous villas and hotels in Madeira and the Italian regions of Tuscany and Umbria. Elegant hotels and apartments are found in major cities such as Paris, Budapest or Barcelona, while luxury cruises are a wonderful way of combining superb holiday treatment with constantly-changing scenery and sightseeing opportunities.
