Hotel Girassol, Madeira

The Hotel Girassol is located around 300m from a large Lido, which is popular with locals and has a good selection of bars and restaurants around it. The resort of Funchal is around 2km away along a level stretch of road – easily walkable or a 2 minute drive in a taxi. Madeira’s capital city, Funchal is both beautiful and charming. Spread out over gently rolling hills and with a backdrop of steep limestone cliffs, the city is garlanded with jacaranda trees and trailing bougainvillea. The palm-lined waterfront is the spot of choice for artists to display their work on the pavements, while musicians entertain those admiring the colourful bobbing boats of the marina. In-land, the Old Town exudes traditional Portuguese personality – cobbled squares, narrow winding streets, terracotta buildings and quaint tavernas selling excellent wine. Other local attractions include the Botanical Garden and Monte Palace Gardens.

 

Accommodation at the hotel consists of 136 clean and bright room set across 11 floors, with the upper floors in particular offering stunning sea views. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-equipped .Junior suites sleep up to 4 adults, and come with double or twin beds. Suites (larger than Juniors) can also be booked and come with an additional living area and a sofa bed. All rooms come with cable TV, mini bar, hairdryer,  telephone, safety deposit box, wired in internet access (for a small fee),  full bathroom with WC and balcony or terrace.

 

The Girassol provides a good range of basic facilities – more than enough to ensure a comfortable stay. Two attractive pools with surrounding gardens and terraces make for a peaceful, relaxing spot to spend days in the sun. Guests will appreciate the use of a small gym, sauna and massage therapies. There is a small on-site restaurant that serves a range of international and local dishes, as well as a poolside bar.
