Volos Weather
Weather in Volos – a moderate Mediterranean climate
Volos’s climate is typical of Mediterranean cities with warm to hot weather most of the year round. Temperatures never drop below 0C even at night in January and December, and at the height of summer they can peak at over 30C. Humidity is medium to high during the summer but is never so high as to prevent visitors from enjoying their chosen activities. Throughout spring, summer and autumn Volos experiences easterly winds, but in the winter these turn north-westerly. Wind speed rarely exceeds 4 knots and is strongest in the summer – great for windsurfing and sailing. Like the rest of Greece, Volos lies in an earthquake zone. A huge earthquake in 1955 demolished much of the city and lead to significant changes in urban planning. The city has also flooded several times, most recently in 2006. The city’s experiences with such forces of nature mean that many safeguards are in place.

For visiting the city of Volos itself spring and autumn are great, with warm temperatures day and night without the heat and humidity of the height of summer, and the shorter days and chance of frost of winter.
