Eating Out & Night Life
Volos boasts a diverse collection of cafes, restaurants and bars, with eating and drinking being traditionally linked. Popular Greek dishes like kalamari and moussaka are widely available but Greek cuisine extends well beyond such fare. The city has many outdoor cafes and traditional restaurants offering seafood mezedhes and fresh grilled fish or calamari, potatoes baked in wood-fired ovens, chicken with orzo pasta and briam mixed vegetables, smoked eels and soft sheep’s cheese. Visitors can also experience hip cafes playing bouzouki music late into the night or bars playing different music every evening. A lot of the more active and popular evening venues are located along the waterfront, which is neighboured by streets containing many different shops.

Local History & Culture
Volos is a fantastic city to visit for those with an interest in history and culture, offering many exhibits and facilities. The city’s dominant architectural style is neoclassic, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, and many examples are still present today such as the Volos train station. The layout and architecture of the city lend it a unique and distinctive aesthetic and atmosphere. A variety of museums can be found dotted around Volos including the Archaeological Museum, the Municipal Gallery, a museum of folk history and art, the historic “little train of Pelion”, and a variety of grandiose churches.

Trips & Excursions
