Milina Things To Do
Milina – A small village
Milina is a lively and attractive fishing village along the western side of the Pelion peninsular on the west coast of Greece. To its east lie the beautiful scenery of Pelion's mountains and forested countryside; to the west are fine views across the picturesque Pagasitic Gulf including a number of small islands. Milina also has a range of quiet beaches in small bays overlooking the Gulf's crystal clear waters. The area is perfect for holidaymakers wishing to enjoy beautiful scenery in peace and quiet away from busier tourist destinations.
Milina – The Ocean
Milina is a yachter's paradise: visitors who have a sailing license can rent small boats and explore the nearby coast, which includes hidden sea caves and the nearby Sporades islands as well as a mix of pebble and sand beaches. Visitors to the islands can also find the historical monasteries of Agioi Saranata and Zoothotou, which are located on Alatas and Prassouthas respectively. Fans of watersports can also try waterskiing, canoes, sea biking, surfing, sailing and more, all offered by companies with offices in Milina.
Milina – Local dining
Despite being a small village holidays in Milina offer a broad selection of fish restaurants, bars, cafés and tavernas. Many of these are situated along the coastal road that runs through the village or the seafront promenade, allowing diners and drinkers to enjoy beautiful views. Later in the evening Milina has a few late-opening bars and even a disco. There are also many festivals throughout the summer with traditional Greek music and dance.
Milina – Discover Milina
The beautiful scenery of Pelion begs to be explored and Milina is a great base from which to do so. Hikers can enjoy walks along established trails along stone-cobbled paths and through forests of beech, oak, elm and chestnut that extend almost to the beaches themselves, or cars and bikes can be rented to travel along the many roads that traverse the scenic mountainous areas. The famous Mount Pelion – home of the mythical centaurs – is also nearby, offering stunning vistas of the Aegean Sea to the east and the Pagasitic Gulf to the west.
Milina – History
Milina is near a variety of historical ruins and buildings, including the ruins of the ancient city of Olizon – the home of a king who participated in the siege of Troy – which lie on the hill-tops overlooking the village. Picturesque traditional villages such as the seashore hamlet of Kottes and the mountain village Trikeri are also nearby – ideal places to stop for a break and a drink whilst enjoying the local scenery, which has retained much of its traditional charm and architecture.
