Koropi Things to do
Village
Koropi is one of many unspoilt coastal villages on the Pelion peninsula. On your Koropi holiday, you'll naturally be drawn to the sand-and-shingle beach in this quiet hamlet. But beyond that, there's a mini-market and a taverna. Truly, this is the authentic Greece. Just 3 km’s away is the equally stunning Kala Nera, which stands in the shadow of Mount Pelion and comes with a gorgeous Blue Flag beach. In Kala Nera, you'll find a variety of hotels, restaurants, tavernas, bars, cafes and commercial shops. Koropi is also a good jumping-off point for reaching Volos, which you can do by public transport or by renting cars, scooters or bikes.
Steam Trains
Your Koropi holiday puts you very close to the village of Ano Lehonia. From here, you can take a trip on the Moutzouris-Smudgy, a famous steam-train ride that takes you over some of Pelion's most spectacular ravines and bridges, with mountain scenery as a stunning backdrop. Not to be missed.
Festivals
A big feature of any Koropi holiday should be festivals and the region lays on several during the summer. You're free to attend, drink, eat, sing and dance and you'll especially want to get involved with the main event of the summer, which takes place on 15th August, the national holiday in honour of the Virgin Mary. The festival of Panagia (The Holy Mother) is held in Kala Nera.
Activities
Should you get tired of swimming off the stunning beaches at Kala Nera and Koropi on your holiday, there's plenty else to keep you occupied. Take a cruise to the North Sporades islands or to other areas of the Pagassitikos Gulf. Organised tours around Mount Pelion are also available. You can hire bikes and explore the gorgeous coast and mountains, hike the traditional Pelion pathways to local villages and enjoy horse-riding from the local riding centre.
Cuisine
On holiday in Koropi, some of the best cuisine in Europe is on your doorstep. At the foot of the mountains and right by the sea, the Pelion peninsula offers meat and fish that's as fresh as it gets. There's a fine range of tavernas and cafe bars at nearby Kala Nera in Koropi, where you can even sit on the water's edge and enjoy meat cooked straight from the spit.
