Kalamaki Things to Do
Beaches
The lovely sandy beach that you can enjoy on a holiday in Kalamaki, offers a peaceful base, ideal for families, thanks to the clean sands and shallow waters. Known for being the nesting place of the Caretta Catetta turtles, the beach is now a protected region, with some parts located in the National Marine Park.
Turtles
The endangered loggerhead turtles nest here in July and August, coming ashore to lay their eggs each year in the warm sands, and their presence means motorised water sports are not allowed, and the beaches are patrolled. Visitors can spot turtles on the beach, or take glass-bottomed boat rides out to watch them at sea.
Boat Trips
Other boat trips depart for secluded beaches along the coast, out to the uninhabited Marathonissi Island, or up to the Blue Caves and across to Smugglers Cove on the west coast.
Sports & Activities
Non-motorised water sports include pedaloes, canoeing and catamaran sailing. Hotels have pools, tennis courts and gyms, as well as table-tennis and billiards, and bikes can be rented.
Walking & Hiking
Great walks and bike rides to enjoy in and around the area, with lovely scenery in the pine forests, olive groves and hillsides inland, and rewarding sea views.
