Alikanas Things to Do
Beaches
The sand and pebble beach here is long an d narrow, and runs along the coast to neighbouring Alykes, offering a range of sunbeds and umbrellas for relaxing sunbathing, and two water sport centres.
Water Sports
Water sports available at Alikanas Beach include pedaloes, jetskiing, banana boat rides, canoes, hydrojets, snorkelling and paragliding, as well as dinghy and speedboat rental.
Boat Trips
Many visitors make trips out to the famous Shipwreck Beach at Smugglers Cove and the Blue Caves on mini-cruises or by speedboat, and there are excursions out across to the neighbouring island of Kefalonia.
Sports & Activities
Hotels have swimming pools, table tennis and billiards, and the resort has facilities for tennis, mini-golf and horse riding. Bike rental is also available, and jeep safaris are a great way to tour the island.
Walking
Alikanas has excellent walking and hiking terrain around Alikanas, with numerous trails and paths leading through the pine-clad forests and hills inland. The salt flats behind the beach are also an attraction, home to local wildlife.
Day Trips
The Tourist Train is a popular way to see the area, and the capital, Zante Town, is a short 20-minute drive away. Sights in the area include St John the Baptist Monastery and Pentokamaro Old Bridge, and visitors can travel inland to see traditional village life, or head south to the Bay of Laganas where the Caretta Caretta Turtles nest.
