Golden Beach Things To Do

The east coast of Thassos is famed for its white sand beaches and Golden Beach ranks as one of the best beaches on the island. Golden Beach is set in a long sweeping bay backed by pine clad slopes and lapped by crystal clear waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Golden Beach is the largest on Thassos and holds a Blue Flag status for cleanliness.

 

There are many sightseeing attractions in and around Golden Beach. Thassos Town holds the remains of ancient Thassos buildings including a theatre and hilltop citadel dating back to the 7^th century BC. Mount Ipsario is an excellent trek by foot, mountain bike or by hiring a jeep. Thassos Town or Limenas is the place for shopping in upmarket stores as well as sampling the traditional restaurants by the seafront and the vibrant nightlife.

 

Numerous water sports are available at Golden Beach including water skiing, windsurfing, parasailing and pedal boats. Canoes and motor boats are also available to hire from the Golden Beach water sports centre and are the perfect way to explore the coastline for a few hours.

 

Day trips from Golden Beach can include a hydrofoil trip over to mainland Greece to the port town of Kavala to view the hilltop castle and many Turkish monuments. The famous archaeological site of Philippi is worth the nine mile trip from Kavala. Hiring a car in Golden Beach will mean trips can be taken to the many villages and resorts on Thassos such as Alyki, known as the most picturesque spot on Thassos.

 

Nightlife in Golden Beach focuses on the atmospheric tavernas by the seafront serving the freshest seafood dishes available. A trip to Limenas will provide numerous bars and restaurants but the liveliest spot on Thassos is Skala Potamias, which is just a short taxi ride from Golden Beach.
